McCall's Magazine - 1964 - Butte Knit Suit - Designed By Neuma Agins for Jonathan Logan
I admit not knowing the name Butte Knit, but I should. According to the Vintage Fashion Guild they were, as part of Jonathan Logan the largest producers of women's clothing in the world during the sixties. And while information was hard to come by for Neuma Agins there is this article that was published in Money magazine talking about some pretty amazing things she did after making a name for herself in the sixties designing wonderful things like this.
My mom was always on the lookout for Butte Knit suits - my memory is that she owned them in green, red and blue.
ReplyDeleteGosh, that was a big name in the 60's and even into the early 70's....That was my mom's first choice for well made 'ready made'. I can recall her having many and insiting I have one also in chocolate brown. At that time I didn't appreciate them, but oh to have that suit now....it would have been so "IN" now!!
ReplyDeleteI just bought an early black Jackie Kennedy-esque Butte suit jacket/skirt set....for $2 at a local thrift. I almost fell over when the girl told me the price! It's beautiful with a nubby textured knit, 3/4 sleeves with satin cuffs, satin collar, satin buttons, and little satin pocket flaps. The matching skirt is a wiggle and ends just below the knee. I'm in LOVE! And it fits me like a glove! Now I want more of these great suits!!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just win. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI just bought a Butte Knit jacket at Goodwill for $6. It still has the original tag. It was a pantsuit, but no pants now. Retailed for $110. It fits me like a custom garment. My mom loved these knits, back in the day.
