Sewing with Cotton Bags - Teens and Ladies Dresses- 1952 - Part 4

"Would you like to have a smart, new 'round -the-clock wardrobe? Undoubtedly, the answer is yes! And that wardrobe need not be just a daydream. Use your fashionable and thrifty cotton bags as the answer to fabric needs for a complete new wardrobe, fresh and crisp for every occasion."
I'm wondering how thrilled a teen gal would be to have a feed sack dress...but maybe it was a great thing!

  1. It was so nice meeting you the other day in my shop and an even nicer surprise to find the things you purchased at my shop on your blog! Your blog is great and I look forward to reading it on a regular basis....and will pass it along to my mom as well. She is a passionate seamstress and will get a big kick out of your posts!

  3. Actually these patterns are out there...but finding the farmer with a ton of matching sacks might be harder!

  4. I once made a shirt out of a flour sack or two, I was so proud of it, so I showed it to my neighbor, and she hated it ~ she said "Why on earth would you ever want to make a piece of clothing out of those horrible sacks!? When I was a girl, that's all we ever had, and I can tell you we HATED them. You had to piece together everything, and seams would come up in the worst places, not to mention, EVERYone knew you were wearing your flour sacks around!" Now I always had this nostalgic notion of sewing things with flour sacks, but apparently those who lived it had different ideas. :-D I suppose it's something akin to living through the 80's, & then having your children suddenly show up in argyle, puffy sleeves & carpenter pants! And being thrilled that they have found something so terribly ~Vintage!, Mom!~ ;-D Love your blog, by the way, I am a bit of a pattern-collector/fabriholic myself! ~ Cara
