"Fall Ideas for the Home Seamstress" - 1934

These were True Story patterns for dresses and hats. Again all the interest was up top, just look at those collars. A pin-tucked funnel neck? Then topped off with a jaunty little hat.

  1. But also notice the bust sizing of these - whoever did these was looking to capture a 'larger' share of the market for sure!

  2. The first one is meant for the "larger figure" but the other two were sized for 14, 16 and 18 years...with those bust sizes 36-38-40. And those two look like they are suppose to be collage/high school students. So I'm confused. Anybody understand what's going on here?

  3. I expect its 14-16-18 years AND 36-38-40 bust
    14 = 30 bust 16 = 32 bust and 18 = 34 bust.
    Or sometimes the teen s were in half sizes
    31-33-35 etc.

  4. Oh, that makes sense. I kept reading it and reading it, but I'm sure you're right.
    Thanks, I get by with a little help from my friends. :-)

  5. What Miss Rayne said! I have a bunch of 30's patterns, and they run 14-16-18, and then skip up to 36-38-40 sizes.

    I love 339! Man...I need more time to sew!
