Hand Colored Engraving of Ladies Hats

I have no information about this page, but these hats are lovely. I hope somebody comes along who can guess at a date.

  1. My knee-jerk reaction is mid-1830s to 1840-ish: the hair is a tip-off, and the sleeves in the two dresses on the right side of the page... they're still huge at the elbow, but stitched down to control the fullness at the shoulder, and that was a mid-1830s thing.

  2. See that's the sort of expertise I was hoping for. I love these historic fashions, but I don't begin to know enough to date things. Thanks so much!

  3. I also was thinking pre-Civil War. Good call. Fun stuff!

  4. They are adorable! So sweet that they make your teeth hurt! I especially love the background designs, you could print this out and insert your own photographs.

I'm going to say 1840-1845. The neckline treatments are too late for the 1830s, and the hairstyles and hats are far more typical of the '40s.
