Civil War Fashions - Engravings from 1864 Ladies Friend Magazine Part 3

This group from the Ladies Friend Magazine features a beautiful lace jacket, hairdos and musical accompaniment.
The songs are Pa Has Struck Ile by C. Archer and The Linden-Hall Polka arranged by Charles Grobe.

I am always asking you to look at the details, but oh, my goodness. Can you BELIEVE those hairstyles? The effort it would have taken produce and wear these works of art...amazing.

  1. Thankyou so much for sharing, these images are truly wonderful! This from when hair was literally 'dressed' and anyone upper-middle class and up had a maid - imagine trying to get some of those clothes on without help!

  2. I saw an image once of a hoop skirt being put on, it took two people, one with a long stick to hold one side higher that her head to lower it down...quite a process to go through a few times a day!
