I don't know...I think I admire them, but mostly I'm glad I don't have to try to BE them. I read that prairie dresses (like what women wore with the covered wagons) were a response to this...the women going west couldn't and wouldn't be as hindered as these corseted gals were, so they adopted loose flowing dresses...which were shocking in their day. Men thought they would scare the horse with their skirts. It was a matter of Fashion following function.
